Via a recent public safety meeting, with thanks to Denise Speicher:

Officer Garth Mitchell reported one burglary on March 21, 2012 in our neighborhood, at last week’s Safety Center meeting. It was on Kansas Street. Entry was through an open window. Two guns were stolen; a shotgun and a muzzle loader. Today, he reported there have been no more burglaries since then.

2011 Holiday Crime Prevention Bulletin

2011 Holiday Crime Prevention Bulletin

Tips from the Rochester Police Department to help you avoid becoming a victim of robbery this holiday season.

1) Make certain that the inside and outside of your home or business is well lit. Motion sensors and “dusk to dawn” lights are good tools for this task.

2) Always keep your doors and windows locked. Criminals will take advantage of an unlocked point at your home, garage, or even while you are driving your car. Keep everything locked up!

3) Never keep or carry excess cash or property if you don’t need it. Use a drop safe at your business, and leave unneeded valuables at home if you are going out for any reason.

For more tips, see the full bulletin on our Safety page.

Rochester Crime Statistics

Chief Sheppard held a press conference October 11 to announce the third quarter Rochester Police Department statistics. He mentioned the problem with teenage break-ins in the Browncroft and North Winton Village neighborhoods, and is working with the Rochester City School District and Rochester Transit to address the issue.
