Barnes & Noble Book Fair to Support City Branches

Barnes & Noble Book Fair to Support City Branches

Rochester, NY , 2011 – Rochester Public Library’s Monroe, Highland and Winton Branches will be holding a Bookfair at the Barnes & Noble store in Pittsford (3349 Monroe Ave.) on Friday, December 2, 2011 from 9 am to 10 pm.

Thinking of buying books, DVDs, music or children’s games or even a Nook for the holidays? Why not do it and contribute to a worthy cause?  If you make your purchases at Barnes & Noble on December 2nd and mention you’re there to support Monroe, Highland or Winton Branch at the checkout, a percentage of your purchase will be donated to the libraries!  This percentage will be used to purchase new materials for each of the branches. There will be a full day of programming at the store to make your shopping trip even more fun— multiple story times for the little ones, a real Knight in Shining Armor, holiday paper crafts, music by Elizabethan and ancient music duo, Bard’s Baroque, and more!

In addition, Sal Maiorana, sports writer for the Democrat & Chronicle, will be signing copies of his recent book Buffalo Bills: The Complete Illustrated History from 6-9:00 pm to support the library book fair.

If you can’t make it to the store on the 2nd, you can still support Monroe, Highland and Winton Branches by purchasing online with Barnes & Noble December 2nd-7th. Just enter Bookfair ID 10576619 at checkout.  The more sales that are made in the libraries’ name, the bigger percentage we will receive back from Barnes & Noble, so please consider purchasing something on our behalf. Every little bit helps!

The full in-store program schedule on December 2nd is:

10 am – 1 pm, multiple Storytimes for all ages

1-3 pm, Holiday Paper Crafts

4 pm, see a real Knight in Shining Armor!

5 pm, acoustic guitar with Dave Santamaria & Jay Fleming

7 pm, music by Elizabethan and ancient music duo Bard’s Baroque

8:30 pm, music by the Cut Off a cappella group

6-9 pm, local author Sal Maiorana (The Buffalo Bills) book signing

Safety Committee at Family Court 10/14

Safety Committee at Family Court 10/14

UPDATE: Judge Nasser gave one week for the attorney of the accused to further explain the options to him. The accused remains in custody. The next court appearance is Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m.

We wish the best to the RPD re: the break-ins as another one happened recently on McBeth Street.

The North Winton Village Association Safety Committee will be going to family court Friday, October 14 for the appearance before Judge Nasser of a young person who has terrorized the East High School area.

The North Winton Village Association, East High School, RGRTA, and the Central Office of the Rochester Central School District have been working together to see that students are supervised after school waiting for the bus. The Association also expects students to be in school and not roaming the neighborhood–East High School has a closed campus during school hours.

CVS Grand Opening

CVS Grand Opening

We have been working with CVS for many years, and finally the new store opened its doors at 8:00 a.m. on February 20, 2011. Please note the attractive landscaping and village-type clock tower designed with a gold and white oak tree. This design, which is our NWVA symbol, has been placed on the lower four sides of the tower. We are very grateful to CVS for working with the NWVA on the design and a very special thanks to them for agreeing with the clock tower. And yes, we do understand many neighbors will miss the old CVS location.
