Linear Garden Press Conference

There was a press conference at the Linear Garden on July 1, 2011 with State Representative Joe Morelle, Chase Bank and City of Rochester officials regarding the Linear Garden.  Soon there will be a pathway installed to East Main Street.  Joe Morelle has been so important in this land transfer–he really cares about his constituents. School 28 Zoning Issues

School 28 Zoning Issues

There are serious problems with the proposed School #28 development project, as beautiful backyards are at stake.  NWVA recently in June attended a meeting at 104 Amsterdam Rd. with approximately 40 neighbors and Central School District and City officials present. Present were Elaine Spaulle, our city council representative, our new CSD Superintendent Bolgen Vargas, School Board members Melisza Campos and Alan Williams,  the project director, architect DiBella Engineering, Bret Garwood of City of Rochester Housing and Nancy Price, City Service Center.   Hopefully they understand North Winton Village is very serious about green space. The point was made that the CSD made a very poor decision in thinking to take backyard space—they need to go elsewhere for their plans for more students, buses and cars.  Local news personalities Rachel Barnhardt and Bob Lonsberry seem very interested in this case, and Marilyn Schutte received a call from Channel 8.

UPDATE: Meetings and discussions are still being held on this issue. To learn more or to become involved, please contact one of the following: Nancy Price 428-8814, talamark@rochester.rr.com, or Marilyn Parchus (NWVA representative) 224-9766.

CVS Grand Opening

CVS Grand Opening

We have been working with CVS for many years, and finally the new store opened its doors at 8:00 a.m. on February 20, 2011. Please note the attractive landscaping and village-type clock tower designed with a gold and white oak tree. This design, which is our NWVA symbol, has been placed on the lower four sides of the tower. We are very grateful to CVS for working with the NWVA on the design and a very special thanks to them for agreeing with the clock tower. And yes, we do understand many neighbors will miss the old CVS location.

New McDonalds Restaurant

New McDonalds Restaurant

The owner of the McDonalds on the corner of E. Main St. and Culver Rd. plans to replace the current building with a new one. The NWVA is working with city zoning and the owner on details such as lighting, location of landscaping, and details so that the new building will fit in better with the cityscape.

Winfield Grill Parking Lot

Winfield Grill Parking Lot

We are pleased with the new look of the wrought iron fence and brick posts in the parking lot. The owner is very enthusiastic about the neighborhood turn-of-the-century lighting, and has rescued an original Corwin Rd. street light to place it on his property. Thanks!
