Rochester, NY , 2011 – Rochester Public Library’s Monroe, Highland and Winton Branches will be holding a Bookfair at the Barnes & Noble store in Pittsford (3349 Monroe Ave.) on Friday, December 2, 2011 from 9 am to 10 pm.
Thinking of buying books, DVDs, music or children’s games or even a Nook for the holidays? Why not do it and contribute to a worthy cause? If you make your purchases at Barnes & Noble on December 2nd and mention you’re there to support Monroe, Highland or Winton Branch at the checkout, a percentage of your purchase will be donated to the libraries! This percentage will be used to purchase new materials for each of the branches. There will be a full day of programming at the store to make your shopping trip even more fun— multiple story times for the little ones, a real Knight in Shining Armor, holiday paper crafts, music by Elizabethan and ancient music duo, Bard’s Baroque, and more!
In addition, Sal Maiorana, sports writer for the Democrat & Chronicle, will be signing copies of his recent book Buffalo Bills: The Complete Illustrated History from 6-9:00 pm to support the library book fair.
If you can’t make it to the store on the 2nd, you can still support Monroe, Highland and Winton Branches by purchasing online with Barnes & Noble December 2nd-7th. Just enter Bookfair ID 10576619 at checkout. The more sales that are made in the libraries’ name, the bigger percentage we will receive back from Barnes & Noble, so please consider purchasing something on our behalf. Every little bit helps!
The full in-store program schedule on December 2nd is:
10 am – 1 pm, multiple Storytimes for all ages
1-3 pm, Holiday Paper Crafts
4 pm, see a real Knight in Shining Armor!
5 pm, acoustic guitar with Dave Santamaria & Jay Fleming
7 pm, music by Elizabethan and ancient music duo Bard’s Baroque
8:30 pm, music by the Cut Off a cappella group
6-9 pm, local author Sal Maiorana (The Buffalo Bills) book signing

We wish the best to the RPD re: the break-ins as another one happened recently on McBeth Street.

The North Winton Village Association, East High School, RGRTA, and the Central Office of the Rochester Central School District have been working together to see that students are supervised after school waiting for the bus. The Association also expects students to be in school and not roaming the neighborhood–East High School has a closed campus during school hours.
Chief Sheppard held a press conference October 11 to announce the third quarter Rochester Police Department statistics. He mentioned the problem with teenage break-ins in the Browncroft and North Winton Village neighborhoods, and is working with the Rochester City School District and Rochester Transit to address the issue.
