Check Out the Little Free Libraries in North Winton Village

Check Out the Little Free Libraries in North Winton Village

By: Chris Clemens

You’ve likely encountered a Little Free Library at some point. The concept began in 2009 when a Wisconsin man put up a small wooden box in his yard and filled it with books. Anyone passing by was welcome to borrow a book or leave one for someone else. The idea spread quickly, and soon there were Little Free Libraries all across the globe. This year, the movement that inspires neighbors to promote reading is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Here in Rochester, we’ve seen Little Free Libraries spring up by the dozens in just the last few years. You can find them in front of homes, outside churches, public parks, and even at some Monroe County Library branches.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair to Support City Branches

Barnes & Noble Book Fair to Support City Branches

Rochester, NY , 2011 – Rochester Public Library’s Monroe, Highland and Winton Branches will be holding a Bookfair at the Barnes & Noble store in Pittsford (3349 Monroe Ave.) on Friday, December 2, 2011 from 9 am to 10 pm.

Thinking of buying books, DVDs, music or children’s games or even a Nook for the holidays? Why not do it and contribute to a worthy cause?  If you make your purchases at Barnes & Noble on December 2nd and mention you’re there to support Monroe, Highland or Winton Branch at the checkout, a percentage of your purchase will be donated to the libraries!  This percentage will be used to purchase new materials for each of the branches. There will be a full day of programming at the store to make your shopping trip even more fun— multiple story times for the little ones, a real Knight in Shining Armor, holiday paper crafts, music by Elizabethan and ancient music duo, Bard’s Baroque, and more!

In addition, Sal Maiorana, sports writer for the Democrat & Chronicle, will be signing copies of his recent book Buffalo Bills: The Complete Illustrated History from 6-9:00 pm to support the library book fair.

If you can’t make it to the store on the 2nd, you can still support Monroe, Highland and Winton Branches by purchasing online with Barnes & Noble December 2nd-7th. Just enter Bookfair ID 10576619 at checkout.  The more sales that are made in the libraries’ name, the bigger percentage we will receive back from Barnes & Noble, so please consider purchasing something on our behalf. Every little bit helps!

The full in-store program schedule on December 2nd is:

10 am – 1 pm, multiple Storytimes for all ages

1-3 pm, Holiday Paper Crafts

4 pm, see a real Knight in Shining Armor!

5 pm, acoustic guitar with Dave Santamaria & Jay Fleming

7 pm, music by Elizabethan and ancient music duo Bard’s Baroque
